Baku-APA. Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Syria has been targeted out external forces for its anti-Israeli stance, the Press TV reported on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Trans-regional forces are pushing Syria toward insecurity and instability because Damascus is at the forefront of the resistance movement against Israel, the report quoted Mehmanparast as saying.

"There are hands at work to create instability and insecurity in Syria with the aim of harming the Islamic resistance front in the region and creating a safe haven for the Zionist regime (of Israel)," said Mehmanparast.

Regional countries must, therefore, be sensitive about the security and stability of the Middle East and thwart any plots for foreign interference through cooperation and coordination, he added.

"We must not allow an atmosphere to be created in which trans- regional countries (will be able to) disrupt the peace in the region with rash measures such as military interference," Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.

"The only issue that the trans-regional countries are not concerned about is the security of the Middle East and the region as they are only pursuing their own interests," said the spokesman.

The European Union (EU) on Friday called for a complete cessation of violence by all parties in Syria.

After their two-day summit in Brussels, EU leaders drew a conclusion on Syria, which strongly condemned the brutal violence and massacres of civilians and urged an immediate stop of attacks against civilian population.

They called for an international, transparent, independent and prompt investigation into violations of international law and human rights with a view to ensuring accountability for those responsible.

The EU leaders reiterated their full support to the UN-Arab League joint special envoy Kofi Annan’s six-point plan and welcomed his efforts to work with key international partners to move the political process forward.

They urged all parties in Syria to fully implement Annan’s plan, allowing full and unhindered humanitarian access and ensuring the safety of the United Nations observers in Syria.
