Annan’s six-point plan best solution for Syria: Iran envoy to UN

Baku-APA. Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei says the six-point plan proposed by the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan is the best solution for ending the crisis in Syria, APA reports quoting Press TV.

â€œWe have always supported Kofi Annanâ€™s six-point plan as the best way to end the crisis in Syria and we demand an end to the violence in that country,â€ Khazaei told reporters after a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on Wednesday.

The Iranian official criticized those countries that are arming and financing the Syrian armed groups and said funneling weapons and funds into the country only serves to escalate the violence, which in turn forestalls the reform process.

The Islamic Republic pursues a policy of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other countries, Khazaei added.

â€œTehran has no military or financial interference in other countries,â€ he pointed out.

On June 22, The Guard reported that the Saudi regime plans to pay the salaries of the members of the terrorist Free Syrian Army amid ongoing attacks carried out by armed groups inside Syria.

The plot, which aims to encourage â€œmass defections from the military andâ€¦ pressureâ€ the Damascus government, has been discussed between officials from Riyadh and Washington, as well as representatives from a number of other Arab states.

Only two day later, an alternative news weblog, the NSNBC, reported that Syria had arrested more than 40 German nationals for attempting to smuggle arms into the country.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of many people, including security forces.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames â€˜outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groupsâ€™ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
