Iranian interior minister: â€œIran is frontrunner of counter-narcotic effortsâ€

Interior Minister and the Secretary General of Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on Tuesday the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDC) has declared Islamic Republic of Iran as the frontrunner of counter-narcotics efforts. Mohammad Najjar made the remarks in a ceremony marking International Drug Day in the IRIB conference hall in Tehran. Mohammad Najjar said in the past years, some 3,700 Iranian anti-drug forces have been killed and 12,000 others have been injured in fighting the drug smugglers, he said, adding that this is the proof that Iran is actively engaged in the drug campaign.

Nearly 500 tons of narcotics have been seized in 1,300 operations against the armed drug smugglers, said the Iranian official.

Persons violating the Iranâ€™s ban on sale and use of narcotics are sentenced to death.
