Baku-APA. A senior Iranian energy ministry official announced on Saturday that Iran is planning to export power supplies to Syria and Lebanon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Iran is currently supplying electricity to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Turkey and we are planning to export power to Syria and Lebanon," Iranian Deputy Energy Minister for Power Mohammad Behzad was quoted as saying.

Iran is currently supplying 1,500 megawatt hours of power to the foreign countries, including 300 megawatt hours to Afghanistan and Pakistan and 1,200 megawatt hours to Iraq and Turkey, said the report.

The deputy minister further mentioned that Iran has increased power exports by 40 percent in the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 2012, and the country will make over 1 billion U.S. dollars of revenues through power exports in this Iranian year.

Behzad also said that his ministry is constructing over 26 power plants throughout the country and that all projects will be accomplished in the next 12 months.

On May 13, an official in Iran’s energy ministry said that the Islamic republic would start exporting electricity to Syria and Lebanon in the near future.

Earlier in the month, Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou said that the Iranian government plans to turn the country into a center for the transit of electricity in the region.
