6 people killed, 15 injured in Iraq’s violence

Baku-APA. Six people were killed and 15 others injured Monday in separate bomb and gunfire attacks in Iraq, APA reports quoting Xinhua .

The deadliest incident in the day occurred near Baghdad when gunmen using assault rifles attacked a police checkpoint near a government-owned facility in Taji area, some 20 km north of Baghdad, killing three policemen and wounding two others, an Interior ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, a roadside bomb exploded in Baghdad’s western district of Ameriyah, injuring three civilians, the source said.

Elsewhere, a sticky bomb attached to a government car went off at an Iraqi army checkpoint in Abu Ghraib area, some 20 km west of Baghdad, killing the driver and wounding a soldier and two civilians, a local police source anonymously told Xinhua.

Also in Abu Ghraib, another sticky bomb attached to a civilian car detonated at a parking lot of a government building, killing the driver and injuring a passer-by, the source said.

In Iraq’s western province of Anbar, three sticky bombs attached to three cars belonging to policemen detonated in the northern city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, killing one civilian and wounding two policemen, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

In Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala, two roadside bombs went off coordinately targeted two army patrols in Edhiem area, some 120 km north of Baghdad, injuring four soldiers including an officer, a source from the provincial operations command told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Violence in Iraq has ebbed from its climax in 2006 and 2007 when sectarian conflicts pushed the country to the brink of civil war, but sporadic shootings and bombings still occur across the country.
