Baku-APA. The Joint Special Envoy for Syria Kofi Annan’s six-point peace plan is "on track," his spokesman Ahmed Fawzi said on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Fawzi told reporters "there are small signs of compliance" with the plan.

"There are signs on the ground of movement, albeit slow and small. There are also signs behind the scenes you don’t see because this mediation effort by definition is conducted below the radar," he said.

But he admitted that violence remained. "Some heavy weapons have been withdrawn, some heavy weapons remain. Some violence has receded, some violence remains. I’m not saying that is satisfactory," Fawzi said.

"A crisis that has been going on for over a year is not going to be resolved in a day or a week," he added.

Fawzi said 50 observers and civilian staff have been deployed in Syria. Annan will brief the UN Security Council next Tuesday from Geneva via video conference.
