UN monitors take position in Syria’s Daraa

Baku-APA. The spokesman of the UN observers to Syria Neeraj Singh said late Thursday that two observers were deployed earlier in the day in southern Daraa province, adding that more observers are expected to join the 15- member team overnight Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Singh said the team visited on Thursday the southern provinces of Sweida and Daraa as well as Damascus’ suburb of Douma, central Homs and Hama provinces.

Currently, there are 15 observers on ground in Syria, six of whom were dispatched evenly to Homs, Hama and Daraa. The number of the team is to grow to 100 within the next month and eventually would reach up to 300 in accordance to the UN Security Council’s recent resolution.

On daily bases, the monitors tour several hotspots across Syria to pave the way for the full mission.
