Local authorities said the plane had been in the air for three minutes when it crashed near the town of Bushehr at 4:30 local time. According to the latest reports, the pilot and navigating officer were killed as the plane caught fire. A special commission was established to investigate the causes of the accident.
Iran purchased US-made F-14 jets in the end of 1970s. After the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US stopped to supply it with repair parts. The United States withdrew F-14 jets from its navy arsenal in 2006 because they went out of date. Only country still using these planes is Iran.
