Baku-APA. A civilian was killed and 11 people wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near an army patrol in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The attack occurred around the sunset when a roadside bomb went off near a passing army patrol in al-Karama neighborhood in eastern Mosul, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Two soldiers were among the wounded by the blast that also damaged one of the patrol’s vehicles, the source said.

Earlier in the day, the city was the scene of a suicide car bomb attack when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into the convoy of Hraim Kamal Agha, head of the office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in the city, spokesman of the office Muhiy al-Din al-Mazouri told Xinhua.

Agha escaped the suicide attack unharmed and three passers-by were wounded at the scene, al-Mazouri said.

PUK, headed by Iraq President Jalal Talabani, is one of the two major Kurdish parties that control Iraq’s northern Kurdish semi- autonomous region.

Nineveh province has long been a stronghold for insurgent groups, including al-Qaida militants. Its capital city of Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, is one of the country’s most restive cities.
