Baku-APA. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday met with Kurdish community leaders in the Hasaka province, APA reports citing RIA Novosti.

They discussed the Kurdish people’s living conditions, their requirements and problems, the agency said. Community leaders told Assad that they "will oppose any attempts to disrupt the unity of the country, its stability and security."

Kurds account for about 10% of Syria’s 23 million population.

At least 130 people have been killed in protests that have been raging in Syria since March 18. The Syrian leadership has pledged to implement economic and political reform. However, Kurdish areas have so far been relatively quiet.
