Southern Israel attacked by Gaza mortar shell: spokesman

Baku-APA. A homemade mortar shell was fired on Saturday night from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel, no injuries were reported, an Israeli army spokesman said, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The spokesman told Israel Radio that a mortar shell was launched from the Gaza Strip at Negev in southern Israel, adding that no injuries or damages were reported.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli war jets carried out four successive airstrikes on southern and central Gaza Strip. Three airstrikes targeted training camps for Islamic Hamas militants, the fourth one was carried out on an empty house in central Gaza Strip town of Deir el-Ballah, said the witnesses and security sources.

Two people were reported injured in the airstrikes, added the witnesses and security sources.

In the early morning on Saturday, three successive airstrikes were also carried out on central and southern Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported, but severe damages were caused in some areas.

The intensive Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip were carried out in response to earlier attacks by homemade rockets fired from the enclave.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had warned Gaza militants that the Israeli army would harshly response to rockets firing.
