Baku-APA. A top opposition leader returned to Bahrain Saturday to join the dialogue between the authorities and opposition, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Shaikh Hassan Mushaima, 62, is the secretary-general of the Haq Movement, an opposition party that has been calling for constitutional reforms and was charged in absentia for running a terror network. He arrived in Bahrain from Beirut after the Lebanese authorities returned his passport, which they confiscated on his arrival there Tuesday according to a Red Notice issued by Interpol on a request from Bahrain last year when the cleric travelled to UK to be treated for lung cancer.

Mushaima told Human Rights Watch (HRW) that he believed the Bahraini authorities had asked Lebanon to delay his return to Bahrain. "They don’t want me to go back to Bahrain because they don’t want to negotiate with me," he said.

The Bahrain leadership announced last week a Royal gesture pardoning 308 prisoners, including Mushaima and others who were arrested for running a clandestine terror network.

Mushaima, who has a strong following among youths, is expected to be a main negotiator in the dialogue with the Bahraini authorities.

Faraz Sanei, a researcher in HRW Middle East and North Africa division, confirmed to Xinhua Friday that Hamad Al Buflasa, a Bahraini Sunni activist, was still missing after the crackdown on protestors camping at Pearl Roundabout since February 14.

"We have received information that one person is missing and we are collecting information from all parties," he said.

The Sunni activist reportedly delivered a lecture at the landmark and has been missing since then.

Sanei further called on the Bahraini authorities to investigate seven men’s deaths during the clashes in an "independent and transparent manner."

"We further call upon eye-witnesses and those present during the crackdown to contact us or provide visual evidence as part of our documentation process for human rights violations. All we can say at the moment is that live ammunition was used and majority of the victims died from bird shot injuries," Sanei said.

Bahrain is the main financial hub in the region and shares its border with the oil-rich Saudi Arabia.
