US to deploy long-term military bases in Afghanistan

Baku – APA. Kabul and Washington are discussing the deployment of American long-term military bases in Afghanistan. According to APA, President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai said US bases would be used in fighting against Taliban and Al-Qaeda. He said their relationship with the United States had long-term strategic character and added that he hopes Washington will bring security and prosperity to Afghanistan. He said the US bases would not be used for aggressive purposes against the neighbor countries. Hamid Karzai reminded that handover of security mission to the Afghan armed forces will begin on March 21, 2011 and be finished in 2014.
