Two police officers, soldier gunned down in Baghdad

Baku-APA. Two police officers and a soldier were killed in two attacks by gunmen in Baghdad on Saturday, an Interior Ministry source said, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Lieutenant Colonel Riyadh Mahmoud Abbas, affiliated to the Iraqi Interior Ministry, was shot dead when gunmen using weapons equipped with silencers attacked him in Baghdad’s western district of Mansour, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, gunmen using silenced weapons shot dead Ali Jasim Mohammed, an officer in the internal affairs department of the Interior Ministry, in Baghdad northern district of al-Ateifiyah, the source said.

Also in the capital, gunmen opened fire from their weapons fitted with silencers on an Iraqi army soldier while he was driving his vehicle in al-Amriyah district in western Baghdad, the source added.

The latest attacks are part of wave of assassinations by insurgent groups against Iraqi security members and government workers. The groups tactics are also include roadside bombings and sticky bombs attached to vehicles.
