Nazarbayev refuses to sign Constitutional amendment on referendum

Baku – APA. Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev refused to sign the Constitutional amendment approved by the parliament which extends his authority term. APA reports quoting “RIA Novosti” that the amendments were sent to the Kazakhstan’s Constitutional Council. Council’s Chairman Nikolay Belorukov said that the amendments would be discussed during a month. Both chambers of Kazakhstan’s parliament approved the Constitutional amendment which allows extending the president’s authority till 2020. One week before the president signed a decree which rejected the proposal of the parliament members to issue a referendum.

The signature collection campaign in the country demanding to hold referendum continues.
More than 5 mln signatures were gathered to the end of the week.
