Israel to pressure US to free spy

Baku-APA. The Israeli premier has said that it will put pressure on US President Barack Obama to release an Israeli spy, who was sentenced for life in the US nearly 25 years ago, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he is considering a public plea to Obama to free imprisoned Jonathan Pollard in the coming days, his office said on Tuesday.

Washington has not made any comments on the matter yet.

US-born Pollard was jailed 25 years ago. His case however remains a source of tension between the United States and Israel.

In a meeting with Netanyahu on Monday, Pollard’s wife, Esther, passed on a message from her husband, urging Tel Aviv to move on from the quiet diplomacy of the past 25 years and to make a public request for his release.

Pollard is serving a life sentence for passing thousands of secret documents about US spy activities in the Arab world to Israel between May 1984 and his arrest in November 1985.
