Baku – APA. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to discuss deepening economic ties with Turkey during a visit to Istanbul this week, APA reports quoting “The Voice of America”.

Iranian media reported on Monday that Mr. Ahmadinejad is traveling to a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization — a regional group comprising Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia nations.

On the sidelines of the meeting on Wednesday, he is expected to meet with top Turkish officials. Iran’s new acting foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi is to accompany Mr. Ahmadinejad.

Iran and Turkey signed agreements in October covering trade, agriculture, education, banking and customs regulations.

Ties between Iran and Turkey have grown in recent months with Ankara endorsing a nuclear fuel deal for Tehran in May, along with Brazil.

Turkey has called for diplomacy to resolve Iran’s nuclear controversy, and will host the next round of talks on the issue between Iran and six world powers early in the new year.
