Baku-APA. Nine Egyptian lawmakers crossed the Rafah crossing border and entered the Gaza Strip on Tuesday in an "Egyptian Freedom Convoy" that is aimed at breaking the Gaza siege, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

"The Egyptian authorities allowed us to cross the terminal and enter the Gaza Strip," lawmaker Farid Ismael told Xinhua. He is one of the nine.

"The convoy is seeking to stand on the Gaza people’s suffering and trying to lift the blockade through these visits," Ismael added.

The convoy reached Rafah borders Monday night but the crossing was closed. They entered Gaza on Tuesday morning.

The convoy carried 160 tons of steel and cement but the Egyptian authorities stopped the building materials from entering the coastal enclave.

On June 1, Egypt decided to open the Rafah crossing at the joint borders with Gaza to allow medical and humanitarian aid into the strip, after Israeli forces attacked an international aid convoy.
