Baku-APA. The UK’s Ministry of Defense announces that two British soldiers have been killed in clashes with militants in Afghanistan’s troubled south, APA reports quoting presstv.ir website.

The troops were slain by small arms fire in Helmand province over the past 24 hours, the ministry said on Saturday.

The latest deaths bring the number of NATO troops slain in Afghanistan so far this year to 231.

The rising number of British troop casualties has slashed support for the Afghan war in the UK.

Since the start of Afghanistan’s invasion nine years ago, 292 British soldiers have lost their lives in the country.

Britain has about 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, mostly based in the south of the country.

The occupation of the country was launched supposedly to wipe out the militancy and bring peace to the population. However, nine years on and despite the presence of over 100,000 foreign troops, Afghanistan remains volatile and unstable.
