Baku. Aynur Veliyeva – APA-Economics. Pakistan has lifted the ban from the famous social networks Facebook and YouTube, but 1200 links are still inaccessible, APA-Economics reports.
According to the court’s decision, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had earlier directed all Internet service providers in the country to shut down websites such as YouTube, and Facebook on May 19, as protests against the Facebook “Everyone Draw Mohammed Day” contest launched by the network organizers. The Islamic Lawyers Forum asked the Lahore court to order to ban Facebook completely. The Lahore court had ordered a ban on Facebook and Youtube till May 31.
Islam prohibits drawing of Prophet Mohammed pictures and the Islamic world strongly condemned cartoons published in a Danish newspaper in 2005.
YouTube and Facebook have 25% of Pakistan’s Internet traffic. 550 of 1200 banned links are provided by YouTube providers.
