Baku. Anakhanum Idoyatova – APA. The UN General Assembly will today elect five new non-permanent members to its Security Council for 2015-2016.
As a candidate, New Zealand, Spain, and Turkey are nominated by Western Europe, Venezuela by Latin American countries, Angola and Malaysia by Africa and Asia-Pacific countries.
The non-permanent membership of Rwanda, the Republic of Korea, Argentina, Australia, and Luxembourg at the UN Security Council will expire on December 31.
Note that, the UN Security Council consists of 15 members. The UK, China, France, Russia, and the US are permanent members. The remaining 10 non-permanent member countries are elected by the General Assembly for 2-year terms. 5 countries are substituted every year.
