Baku-APA.The United Nations Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Kenya's Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources Judi Wakhungu to UNESCO Scientific Advisory Board, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
A statement issued in Nairobi on Thursday said the central function of the Board is to provide advice on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development to the UN Secretary- General and to the executive heads of relevant UN organizations.
"Some of the key objectives will be to strengthen the linkage between science and policy, and to ensure that the latest scientific findings are reflected in high-level policy discussions within the United Nations system," the statement said.
The Board is comprised of internationally renowned scientists representing various fields of natural, social and human sciences.
The secretariat of the Board rests with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Wakhungu who is a professor of energy resource management has accepted the appointment and promised to perform her duties on the Board with full commitment and dedication.
Experts are appointed to a two-year term, with a possibility for an additional two-year extension.
