Baku-APA. Canada Tuesday announced a temporary withdrawal of its all diplomats from Libya due to unpredictable security situation in the African country, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"The government of Canada takes the safety and security of our diplomats abroad very seriously. Due to operational challenges, including the unpredictable security environment in Tripoli, we have authorized the temporary suspension of operations at our office in Tripoli," the Canadian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Canada's charge d'affaires and Canadian diplomats in Tripoli will temporarily work out of the Canadian embassy in Tunisia until appropriate measures are put in place to respond to the changing operational environment, it said.
"This decision is solely due to concerns about the security of our personnel and has no connection with our continuing and long- standing diplomatic relations with Libya," it added.
Canada has advised against all travels to Libya since June 1, 2014.
Amid the ongoing violence resulting from clashes between Libyan militias, the United States closed its embassy in Libya on Saturday and relocated personnel there to neighboring Tunisia. Britain has updated its advice to warn against travel to Libya after clashes over Tripoli international airport erupted.
