Baku-APA. At least 11 people were killed and another 11injured on Monday in two separate road accidents in Peru, according to local police, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

 

The first accident, killing six people and wounding two, occurred around daybreak when a van fell off a cliff near the village of Olichoco in Huamachuco province in the northwest La Libertad region.

 

The driver of the van lost control of the vehicle, which was carrying a group of teachers, when trying to overtake another vehicle on a slippery road situated 3,000 meters above sea level.

 

Several hours later, five people were killed and nine injured in another triple car crash in northern San Martin.

 

The second accident involved a collision of a passenger bus, a van and a third vehicle along the Fernando Belaunde Highway, near Cunumbuqui district of Lamas province.

 

According to initial reports, the passenger bus was speeding when it crashed into the van running in the opposite lane, and the third vehicle almost immediately collided with the two.

 

All the injured in the two accidents were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

 

Official figures show that each year around 3,500 people die of traffic accidents in Peru.
