Parliament has been evacuated and police have blocked access to Parliament Hill in Ottawa for what they’re calling an “ongoing police investigation," APA reports citing The Star.
Parliamentary Protective Services (PPS) said in an email to the Star that Parliament Hill has been evacuated and a police operation is underway “with a possible threat.”
It said all parliamentary buildings have a “shelter in place” until further notice. PPS said it sent an emergency alert to all parliamentarians and parliamentary employees earlier today.
An Ottawa police duty inspector tweeted just before 3 p.m. Saturday that police are investigating a “suspicious incident” on Parliament Hill.
“Multiple streets are closed and there is a large police presence,” the tweet said.
After several hours of inspection, the workers were allowed to return to the building. The public was not informed about the reasons for the operation.
