Baku-APANew York police have arrested an alleged serial killer for murdering three storekeepers of Middle Eastern descent, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The 63-year old local clothing salesman, Salvatore Perrone, was arrested by the New York police on Wednesday and charged with three counts of murder and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Perrone was recognized at a drugstore in Brooklyn after the police circulated a photo of the suspect, which was captured by a security camera near the site of the latest killing.

A .22 caliber rifle was recovered by the police at the apartment of Peronne’s girlfriend. Tests showed Peronne’s fingerprints on the rifle.

In addition, ballistic tests showed that shell casings found at the three crime scenes were all fired from the same rifle.

Police said Peronne had given implicating statements following the arrest.

The first killing occurred on July 6 when the suspect gunned down Mohammed Gebeli, 65 in Brooklyn. On August 2, the second victim, Isaac Kadare, 59, was shot in Queens. The last killing was on Friday, November 16 when Rahmatollah Vahidipour, 78, was shot three times in his store in Brooklyn.

Gun violence claims the lives of thousands of people in the US each year.
