Hawaii's largest power services company Hawaiian Electric was sued for alleged actions that led to the Maui County wildfire, APA reports citing Teletrader.
According to one of the lawsuits seen by NBC News, the plaintiffs accuse the firm of being "grossly negligent by making conscious decisions to delay grid modernization projects that would have prevented this very tragedy."
Hawaiian Electric provides 95% of electricity for the island of Maui. The plaintiffs submitted a number of the company's public documents, arguing they "say they knew how to prevent [the widfires], and their own papers showed their conscious and deliberate decision to delay the implementation of safety measures that would have prevented this tragedy." Over 100 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the wildfires, with the death toll likely to rise as search efforts continue.
