Twelve people were injured in the earthquake in Mexico City, the mayor of the Mexican capital, Clara Brugada, announced in Honolulu, APA reports.
"Since the introduction of the earthquake response protocol, 12 casualties have been recorded, five utility poles and four trees have fallen, and 18 calls have been received regarding the lack of power in various areas," she wrote.
According to the mayor, city services continue to assess the aftermath of the earthquake, and are inspecting residential and administrative buildings, as well as critical infrastructure facilities.
According to preliminary data from Mexico's National Seismological Service, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.5. The epicenter was located 15 kilometers southwest of the city of San Marcos in the state of Guerrero, with the source located at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
