The death toll from the winter storm hitting the United States has increased to at least 34 people, and more are expected, APA reports citing Associated Press.
The storm is expected to trap some residents in their homes with large accumulations of snow, knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses. According to flight tracking website FlightAware, 2,498 flights to, from, or within the US were canceled on Christmas Day, while another 6,061 were delayed.
About 60% of the US population has experienced some winter weather advisory or warning, and temperatures have dropped drastically below average from the eastern Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians.
