Federal Supreme Court of Brazil Judge Alexandre de Morais has ordered the transfer of former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) to a specialized unit of the penitentiary complex. The decision was made due to the politician's deteriorating health, APA reports citing CNN Brasil.
It is noted that the former head of state requires constant medical supervision, as he continues to experience chronic abdominal pain. In 2018, on the eve of the presidential election, Bolsonaro was the target of an assassination attempt, and he was stabbed.
At the prison complex in Brasilia, known as "Papudinha," Bolsonaro will be held in a 65-square-meter cell with a kitchen, refrigerator, private bathroom with hot water, and a courtyard for exercise. Before his transfer, the politician was held in a 22-square-meter cell, but he also had access to a refrigerator, television, and shower.
Judge de Morais emphasized that the transfer is also intended to stop a "disinformation campaign" waged by Bolsonaro's relatives and supporters. As CNN Brasil reported, the former Brazilian leader's entourage systematically disseminated videos alleging that the ex-president was being held in "humiliating conditions" in a Federal Police cell.
