United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that he welcomes the three-day ceasefire in Sudan over the Eid al-Fitr holiday, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Blinken revealed that he spoke to Sudanese Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces leader General Mohamed Hamdan "Hemedti" Dagalo yesterday and "urged them both to commit to and abide by a ceasefire during this period." The US top diplomat noted that "there is serious mistrust between the two forces" but underlined that "the priority for all must be to end the suffering of civilians."
"With the pause in fighting, Sudan's military and civilians leader must urgently begin negotiations on arrangements for a sustainable ceasefire to prevent further damage to the Sudanese nation," Blinken pointed out.
