The British BBC has apologized to US President Donald Trump for a documentary that incorrectly edited his speech, APA reports, citing the AP.
However, the corporation refused to pay Trump compensation and said that the US president had no basis for his defamation claim.
The scandal in question arose after the release of the Panorama program. The program's editors edited Trump's speech during the storming of the Capitol building in 2021 in such a way that he allegedly called on the crowd to riot and violent.
Trump's lawyers threatened the BBC with a $1 billion lawsuit, demanding that the corporation issue a retraction, issue a formal apology, and pay compensation.
As a result of the scandal, BBC Director General Tim Davey and Head of News Deborah Terness resigned.
