Peru seizes 1 ton of cocaine

Baku-APA. Peru’s National Police (PNP) seized almost 1 ton of cocaine and arrested four alleged drug traffickers, Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza said Monday, APA reports quoting XInhua.

Two Colombians, one Peruvian and one Venezuelan were nabbed in several police actions last Saturday in Peru’s capital city Lima, said Pedraza.

Officers from the National Anti-Drug Agency found a van loaded with 127 packages of cocaine in the first operation and arrested the Venezuelan driver identified as Percy Matos.

The police then arrested Colombian Roberto Gomez, who was driving a taxi after meeting Matos.

Three hours later, Peruvian Jose Panta and Colombian Edison Ruiz, who were guarding a car loaded with 100 packages of cocaine, were captured.

Based on information given by the arrestees, the police found a property near Lima on Saturday afternoon, where other 650 packages of cocaine were hidden.

According to the PNP, 877 packages of cocaine weighing 994.9 kg were seized, with a black-market value of some 50 million U.S. dollars.
