Baku-APA. The United States on Friday urged all candidates in Somalia to accept the result of a presidential vote in the country’s parliament scheduled for Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Sept. 10 will be a historic day for Somalia as its parliament chooses a new president," the U.S. State Department said in a statement. "This is a time for parliament to act with courage, determination and integrity in conducting a fair and transparent election."

"It is imperative that all candidates for president recognize the outcome of this process," the statement added, calling on the security forces in Somalia to maintain order and peace.

The presidential vote is a key part of a roadmap designed to move Somalia out of its long transitional period and introduce a more stable form of government in the war-torn Horn of Africa country. There has been no central government control over most of Somalia’s territory since the outbreak of a civil war in 1991.
