Baku-APA. Two US embassy employees have suffered gunshot wounds when assailants opened fire on their vehicle south of the national capital Mexico City, APA reports quoting Press TV.
An official from the attorney general’s office, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the shooting took place Friday on a highway leading from Mexico City to the city of Cuernavaca, AFP reported.
The official underscored that the victims were “from the US embassy."
After the shooting, the Mexican army and the police closed a 10-kilometer stretch of highway as well as access to a wooded area around the scene of the incident.
The pair has been taken to a hospital in Cuernavaca, situated 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of Mexico City.
Meanwhile, US embassy spokesman Alex Featherstone said, “We’re looking into the reports but cannot provide or confirm no details."
