Baku-APA. U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to express his condolences over the shooting in a Wisconsin Sikh temple that killed six worshippers, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the president made the call "because several of the victims in the shooting were Indian nationals."

"The two leaders spoke about their shared commitment to tolerance and religious freedom, and the president again reiterated his appreciation for the significant contribution that Sikhs make to the broader American community," he told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Denver, Colorado.

The gunman, identified as Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old army veteran, went on the rampage in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek. He killed himself after a police officer shot him in the stomach.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the rampage, in which four people were also wounded, but called Page a white- supremacist.

The incident came just about two weeks after a mass shooting broke out at a Colorado movie theater that claimed 12 lives and wounded nearly 60.

Prime Minister Singh himself is a Sikh.
