Baku-APA. Brazil’s vice president was removed from an intensive care unit and was in stable condition a day after he suffered a heart attack, officials said Friday, APA reports quoting news.yahoo.com website.
Jose Alencar was taken to a wing specializing in heart care at midday, according to a statement from the Sirio Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo.
Alencar is technically Brazil’s head of state while President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is attending an economic summit in South Korea.
A spokeswoman with the president’s office in Brasilia said that Alencar was alert and remained the acting president. She spoke on condition of anonymity, saying she was not authorized to be quoted by name.
Alencar suffered the heart attack Thursday evening. The vice president has been fighting abdominal cancer since 1997.
