«Reacts to Congressmen Blackmailing Turkey of Recognition of Armenian Allegations»
Stating that there will be a cost for Turkey if it stays on its present heading of growing closer to Iran and more antagonistic to Israel, Rep. Mike Pence said, "It will bear upon my view, and I believe the view of many members of Congress, on the state of the relationship with Turkey. They need to understand going forward there’s going to be a cost regarding the Armenian resolution."
Congressmen Peter King (D-NY) said on Wednesday that most of his collegues believe in so called Armenian genocide but they did not support Armenian resolutions for the sake of strategical relations between Turkey and United States. Congressmen Adam Schiff (D-CA) has started to circulate a letter in the U.S. House of Representatives to urge Representatives to join their collegues who sponsors the resolution that recognizes so called Armenian genocide. Accusing Turkey of turning its direction from the West to the direction of Iran, Schiff said in the letter that it is high time to recognize so called Armenian genocide.
Commenting on the statements of U.S. Congressmen, Hakan Tekin, Turkish Republic’s Consul General in Los Angeles, stated that recent initiatives to collect support for so called Armenian genocide resolution are opportunistic and shortsighed. According to the report of Glendale News Press, Tekin stated that U.N. Security Resolution and what happened in Gaza have no connection with historical incidents. "If you are making a decision on a historical debate, it has to be made based on the parameters of that debate," said he.
Accusing U.S. Congressmen of running double standarts against Turkey, Tekin called American politicians to avoid interviening Turkish-Armenian relations. "Turkish-American ties are so strong and two countries share several strategical relations. If they want to deal with the issue of Turkey and Armenia, they should focus on moving the process of Turkish-Armenian protocols instead of passing a one-sided resolution," said he.
