Baku-APA. Several thousands of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi staged protests across Egypt on Friday to demands his reinstatement as security forces intensified presence around main squares and roads, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Three people were killed and dozens of others injured in skirmish between supporters of Morsi and local citizens in Sharqiya and Port Said governorates, medical officials and state- run media said.
The confrontations in Sharqiya erupted when the protesters attempted to storm the government building in Zagazig city. The killed were shot in the chest, Undersecretary of the Health Ministry Atef Aafiyah said.
Similar clashes between citizens and protesters also erupted in the coastal city of Alexandria, the Delta city of Mansoura and Beheira governorate, leaving dozens of people injured.
Elsewhere in Cairo, one police officer and a passerby were shot dead and another policeman was seriously wounded when a group of masked gunmen opened random fire at a police checkpoint in Al- Nozaha district in eastern Cairo on early Friday.
Later in the day, thousands of Morsi's supporters staged protests in Cairo's main squares.
The police forces fired tear gas to disperse pro-Morsi protesters in Sphinx Square after Friday prayer. Gunshots were heard near the square, the security forces then closed May 15 Bridge immediately to prevent protesters from shooting from the bridge, which had happened on Aug. 15.
In western Cairo, hundreds of Morsi's supporters marched near Rabaa mosque, one of their two major sit-ins sites dispersed by police on Aug. 14.
One of the protesters in Mohandesine district, Mido Mohamed, a teacher in his 30s, told Xinhua he participated in the protests to prove that arresting Brotherhood's top leaders won't stop "calls for legitimacy."
The protests also caused traffic congestion in Cairo's Haram street and Heliopolis district, where several hundreds of people surrounded the Ain Shams police station to call for release of the Muslim Brotherhood members.
On Thursday, one day ahead of the planned nationwide demonstrations, Interior Ministry spokesman said the ministry " will use live ammunition based on the legitimate right of defense. "
The Egyptian cabinet also urged in a press release the participants in the Friday demonstrations to hold peaceful protests, and respect the state of emergency and curfew time.
The curfew, imposed on 14 governorates, including the capital Cairo, starts from 09:00 p.m. (1900 GMT) to 06:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) in all days except Fridays, when it starts at 07:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) instead.
So far, more than 350 members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested, according to official news agency MENA.
