Baku-APA. The South African scientific and research center on Tuesday announced that it has succeeded in developing the world's first digital laser, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
It should be the first time for the world to build such a machine, having the potential of many applications.
"Our device represents a new way of thinking about laser technology and we see in it a new platform on which the future technologies may be built," said Andrew Forbes, spokesperson of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) National Laser Center.
In addressing its practical meaning in the social development, the spokesperson said, "We believe that this innovation could be used in health as a research tool."
The laser technology has been widely used in the modern society like communication. "We are already working on this plus other devices in communication," he added.
The CSIR is South Africa's central and premier scientific research and development organization, with a staff of approximately 3,000 researchers working in multi-disciplinary teams.
The CSIR is also the largest research and development organization in Africa, accounting for about 10 percent of the entire African research and development budget.
The digital laser is part of a series of projects being carried out by the CSIR, aimed at promoting the development of science and technology in South Africa.
