UN envoy meets Libyan government officials, NTC members in Tunis

Baku-APA. The special envoy of United Nations secretary general, Abdul Ilah al-Khatib met with members of the Libyan rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) as well as government officials on Tuesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Khatib told the press that he met with several NTC members in Tunis but did not "engage in negotiations or official talks."

He said he also met with several Libyan citizens who requested to see him.

Khatib denied being informed of the negotiations currently taking place in the Tunisian island of Djerba to find a solution to the Libyan crisis.

The UN supported the efforts of various parties to find a solution to the crisis in the interests of the Libyan people, the envoy said.

He also expressed his willingness to visit the Libyan rebel base Benghazi and capital Tripoli to "stop the bloodshed and realize the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people."

The UN special envoy also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mouldi Kefi on Tuesday and interim Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi on Monday.
