Baku-APA. The European Union’s anti-piracy task force says Somali pirates have left a cargo ship a day after they hijacked it, APA reports quoting news.yahoo.com website.
The force says an EU warship provided medical assistance to two crew members of the MV Syria Star who were injured during the ship’s hijacking on Thursday.
The pirates left the MV Syria Star Friday of their own accord, sailing away in one the ship’s rescue boats, the force says in a Saturday statement.
The vessel had a crew of 22 Syrians and 2 Egyptians and a cargo of sugar when it was hijacked as it sailed in the Gulf of Aden.
Pirates are holding at least 16 ships and hundreds of crew members, including a British couple who were seized from their yacht last October.
