Baku-APA. Seven people were killed and 33 wounded Wednesday in separate bomb attacks, including two suicide car bombings, in northern and central Iraq, the police said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
A suicide car bomber struck the entrance of an Iraqi army base in al-Baker district in eastern the city of Mosul, some 400 km north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, killing four soldiers and wounding five others, a local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Seven civilians were also wounded by the blast, the source said.
Meanwhile, another suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car outside another army base in al-Muthanna district in eastern Mosul, wounding four soldiers, the source added.
The huge blast also hit a passing wedding convoy, killing the groom and wounding 12 people, including his bride, the source said.
Separately, two fighters of the government-backed Sahwa paramilitary group were killed and five wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near their checkpoint in al-Mashahda area, some 20 km north of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source anonymously told Xinhua.
The Sahwa militia, also known as the Awakening Council or the Sons of Iraq, consists of armed groups, including some powerful anti-U.S. Sunni insurgent groups, who turned their rifles against the al-Qaida network after the latter exercised indiscriminate killings against both Shiite and Sunni Muslim communities.
Violence and high-profile attacks are still common in Iraq despite a dramatic decrease since its peak in 2006 and 2007, when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings.
