UNDP: It is important for the private sector to invest in housing construction

The housing issue is closely linked to poverty reduction, Francine Pickup, Deputy Director of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said at the event dedicated to the topic “The Social and Economic Power of Housing” organized within the framework of the third day of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.

“The housing issue is closely linked to poverty reduction, and one of the main goals of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is precisely to strengthen sustainable development, quality of life and social resilience,” she noted.

At the same time, the UN official emphasized that the housing issue is often assessed as a separate sector and is not sufficiently connected with social, economic and development dimensions.

She stressed that state financing alone is not sufficient in this field and that it is also important for the private sector to invest in housing construction.
