“We are studying national housing policies in countries," UN-Habitat employee Matthijs van Oostrum said at the session titled “From Policy to Impact: Delivering Housing at Scale” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports
He stated that countries implement national housing policy in different ways:
“In European countries, the approach to housing is shaped more within the framework of public housing. It is important for countries to apply a broader and more integrated approach to housing policy. Differences between countries in approaches to housing policy are increasing.”
He noted that African countries are facing serious housing problems:
“These problems are expected to increase even more in the future. Therefore, it is very important for countries in these regions to at least begin developing national housing policies with an integrated approach. In some countries, there are not only national housing policies, but also separate national housing laws. In some cases, this legislative framework is quite comprehensive and serves as a strong institutional basis for housing governance.”
