Azerbaijan is located at the strategic crossroads of the Eurasian region, and as a result of the implemented policy, the volume of transit transportation has almost doubled, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev said during the special session titled “Cities at the Center of Connectivity: Urban Reconstruction and Regional Cooperation” organized within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
According to him, approximately 17 million tons of cargo were transported through the country’s territory last year.
Rashad Nabiyev also added that the transformation of urban spaces has begun at the initiative of the country’s leadership.
“The main focus was directed toward mobility and the development of public transport. We set specific goals for ourselves and determined how we would achieve those goals. This approach formed the basis of all our subsequent steps,” the minister noted.
According to him, the main goal is to reduce citizens’ use of private cars and taxis and direct them toward public transport.
