“Azerbaijan has always been an advocate of peace and has consistently made efforts to resolve the issue through peaceful means, even during the period when our lands were under occupation,” said Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev at the international conference “In Defense of Sovereignty: The Status of the Prosecutor’s Office in the Constitution,” APA reports.
“However, despite the UN having four resolutions recognizing the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and demanding their unconditional liberation, the Armenian side has not returned the occupied lands. As always, Azerbaijan remains an advocate of peace today,” said the Prosecutor General.
He noted that the initialing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House in Washington, D.C., on August 8 of this year is a clear example of this: “This document is not only a new chapter in the relations between the two states but also a historic turning point in ensuring lasting peace and security in the South Caucasus, as well as further development of the economy. At the same time, this document represents the global recognition of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty.”
