Azerbaijan celebrates Water Tuesday of Novruz Holiday

Today, the first Tuesday of the Novruz holiday, known as Water Tuesday, is celebrated in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

This Tuesday marks the beginning of preparations for the Novruz holiday. Water Tuesday reflects the sacred nature of water.

It is also called "Ezel Tuesday" and "Water Novruz." In the folk tradition, it is referred to as "early Tuesday," "beautiful Tuesday," and "flower Tuesday."

On Water Tuesday, water sources are renewed, channels are restored, and works are carried out to improve water reservoirs, various celebrations related to water are held.

Water Tuesday is associated with the belief in the sanctity of water. Before dawn, people go to the water, wash their faces, sprinkle water on one another, and jump over the water. According to popular belief, those who pass through "new water" and give their ailments to it will be free from illness throughout the year. Water is considered a symbol of cleanliness, purity, and the beginning of life. On this day, it is recommended to place clean water on the table and have all family members drink it.

Note that Fire Tuesday will be celebrated on March 4, Wind Tuesday on March 11, and the last one, Earth Tuesday, will be on March 18. In 2025, the Spring season will start on March 20 at 13:01. Novruz will be celebrated on March 20-21 in Azerbaijan.
