President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the Khojaly Genocide Memorial in the city of Khojaly on November 8, APA reports.
The Presidents laid wreaths at the memorial.
The Khojaly Genocide Memorial was established in accordance with an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev in February 2025 to commemorate the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, convey historical truths to future generations, and preserve national memory. The project was implemented based on a concept developed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The Memorial consists of four sections. An exhibition hall dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Khojaly genocide has been set up in the first two sections.
The installation titled "Face of the Tragedy," featured in the exhibition, depicts the peaceful residents killed during the genocide and the families torn apart by the tragedy.
The exhibition dedicated to the Khojaly genocide presents, through documents, maps, and facts, the historical roots of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the policy of aggression, and the atrocities committed by Armenian terrorists on Azerbaijani lands. It also provides information on the history of Khojaly, the chronology of the conflict, the genocide itself, and the political and legal assessment of the genocide given by National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The horrors experienced on the day of the tragedy are presented interactively through a scale model of Khojaly displayed in the exhibition hall.
The second exhibition hall features an AI-generated video depicting the fate of eight families completely wiped out during the tragedy, as well as the lives and dreams cut short in a single night as a result of the crime.
The exhibition also highlights the consistent policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev to secure international recognition of the Khojaly tragedy and its historical truths, the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, under the initiative and leadership of its President Mehriban Aliyeva, to keep the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide alive and establish justice, and the efforts undertaken within the framework of the "Justice for Khojaly!" international campaign initiated by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
Scale models of monuments erected in several countries in memory of the victims of the genocide as part of the "Justice for Khojaly!" international campaign are also displayed at the Memorial.
The exhibition concludes with information about the 44-day Patriotic War and the restoration of state sovereignty, focusing on the concepts of the "Great Return" and "Devastated Khojaly will be revived."
