The newly established "Gen Z regelt! Studis" ("Generation Z Decides! Students") movement in Germany plans to join Europe-wide protests on November 20 and hold a mass strike at the country's higher education institutions, DPA reports.
A representative of the initiative group stated that the main goal of the protest is to achieve the suspension of teaching activities at universities as completely as possible.
More than 90 representatives from 35 universities and institutes in Germany attended the movement's founding meeting.
According to the organizers, the final decision on holding the strike will be made through voting at general student assemblies to be organized at several higher education institutions before November 20.
"We want to hold large-scale protests, not small and local actions, where hundreds of students will demonstrate solidarity and vote to suspend classes," the initiative group stated.
The protesters' main demands include a significant increase in government funding for education, a legal ban on short-term employment contracts with academic staff, the introduction of a wealth tax, and a complete halt to military research at universities.
The movement also demands the resignation of German Chancellor and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz.
